Our Founder & Designer: James Norton
At the helm of RobertJames, James Norton serves as the Founder and Designer, seamlessly blending artistry and craftsmanship to create a collection defined by timeless luxury. With an innate passion for elegance and innovation, his distinct aesthetic is woven into every piece.
Born and raised amidst the rolling vineyards of Sonoma County, California, James was immersed in creativity from an early age. His artistic journey has spanned interior design projects across the United States, earning national recognition for his extravagant dinner parties and meticulously curated tablescapes. "Whether I'm designing a space, setting an elegant table, or sketching a handbag, I find endless joy in the creative process —transforming an idea into a work of beauty," Norton reflects.
Drawing upon his extensive background in design-both in interiors and fashion -he began sketching handbags that married classic elegance with modern sensibility. Those early illustrations evolved into meticulously crafted patters, culminating in a collection that epitomizes luxury. Though the materials are sourced from around the world, he remained steadfast in his commitment to American craftsmanship, ensuring every handbag is handcrafted in the United States by master artisans.
RobertJames is a deeply personal endeavor — its name a tribute to both Norton and his partner of over two decades, Robert Walden.
Though James never anticipated fatherhood, Robert had two daughters when they met, and together they have built a family that now includes four cherished grandchildren. In homage to the family he never expected but wholeheartedly embraces, the first handbags in the collection are named after each child and grandchild.
